Sincere Love

Your love must be sincere. Romans 12:9.

Most of us have learned how to pretend to love, how to speak kind words, how to avoid hurting others feelings, to show concern and appear to take an interest in them. We are even skilled in pretending to feel moved with compassion when we hear of other’s needs. But God calls us to display real, sincere love that goes beyond pretense and politeness.
A girl selling apples in the railway station had an extremely bad experience in the morning. A train had changed its tracks and arrived on the platform where she sat selling her apples. While the people started pushing wildly in a rush to catch the train, a man inadvertently ran into her cart and all the apples fell and rolled all over the platform. Without stopping or looking back, all the people managed to reach the train just in time. All but one! He paused, took a deep breath, and experienced a twinge of compassion for the girl whose apple stand had been overturned. He was glad he did. The girl was totally blind! She was softly crying, tears running down her cheeks in frustration and helplessness as she could not do anything. He picked up, cleaned and arranged all the apples again on the cart. Some of the apples were spoilt because people had stepped on them. The apples that were too damaged to sell weighed 3 Kgs and this man took out his wallet and bought them by paying its price. The blind girl asked the kind man, “Sir, I would like to ask you a question, are you Jesus?” He replied “why do you ask that?” She answered and said “my mother told me once - whenever you are in trouble pray to Jesus. Jesus will come and help you.” This story is a challenge to all of us how we reciprocate and care for the needy.
